1 Shape visionary, proactive leadership
1.1 Promote and support the Mentoring of New Administrators
1.1.1 Encourage mentor relationships via area groups by utilizing area group representatives and the WAVA mentoring program
1.1.2 Continue to Sponsor the New Directors’ Workshop(s)
1.1.3 Annually recognize WAVA mentors
1.2 Promote and support the Internship Program
1.2.1 Support and expand the continuation of the CTE Administrative Internship Program and serve as presenters as requested
1.2.2 Validate the Internship Program and New Director workshop through OSPI and the WAVA Internship Committee and coordinate with higher education.
1.2.3 Review CTE director competencies as utilized in the CTE director preparation program
1.3 Encourage and support Area Group Leadership
1.3.1 Support Area Group Leaders as the conduit of information to WAVA members
1.3.2 Continue to develop a resource guide for area groups
1.3.3 Publish area group activities on www.wavanet.org
1.4 Recognize members and supporters for their contributions
1.4.1 Annually recognize an outstanding CTE administrator
1.4.2 Recognize new CTE administrators and interns at WAVA conferences and sponsor graduation at the Summer WAVA Luncheon
1.4.3 Recognize Legislators of the Year with an award at the Fall Conference
1.5 Promote membership in WAVA
1.5.1 Increase active and involved membership through proactive work with WA-ACTE and approach school districts that are not currently members
1.5.2 Provide timely updates of information on www.wavanet.org.
1.6 Foster and maintain strong partnerships with educational agencies and organizations with supportive member participation in stakeholder activities
1.6.1 Appoint WAVA representatives to agencies, boards & entities that affect CTE
1.6.2 Keep CTE directors current on progress and activities of OSPI and WA-ACTE association sections through reporting at conferences or the WAVA website
1.7 Offer the WAVA scholarship program to support CTE teacher preparation
1.8 Advocate for state support of CTE Plan I and Plan II teacher preparation programs
1.9 Participate in developing and conducting CTE teacher recruitment and retention
2.0 Establish an ad-hoc committee to research certification and hiring needs and practices and
make a recommendation to the board
2 Support Professional Growth Opportunities
2.1 Create opportunities for all members to participate in WAVA activities and area groups
2.2 Maintain an active and fiscally balanced organization
2.2.1 Develop a Program of Work following the mission of WAVA, monitored and evaluated at WAVA Board meetings
2.2.2 Conduct an annual fiscal review
2.2.3 Conduct regular business meetings
2.2.4 Publish a complete WAVA Directory
2.2.5 Promote and maintain a website for the WAVA organization.
2.3 Plan and deliver effective in-service at all levels
2.3.1 Plan Fall and Spring conferences based on current needs and common themes
2.3.2 Conduct a WAVA in-service at the annual Summer WA-ACTE Conference
2.3.3 Request representatives from all area groups to participate on the in-service committee
2.3.4 Include OSPI staff participation in all WAVA meetings, co-sponsoring of conferences, providing field support, and sharing information on critical issues that affect CTE
2.3.5 Model effective learning strategies including interactive sessions, useful “takeaways” and applicability
2.4 Plan and support legislative issues affecting CTE
2.5.1 Monitor and be responsive to Perkins State Allocation and other CTE funding issues
2.5.2 Develop and implement a legislative action plan in partnership with OSPI and WA-ACTE, encouraging WOVE subscription
2.5.3 Provide Legislative in-service at Fall Conference
2.5.4 Maintain and improve Legislative Alert Network with the area groups by providing resources and personnel
2.5.5 Actively participate with the SBE as it relates to graduation requirements
3 Advance and improve CTE in the context of broad educational issues
3.1.1 Collaborate with OSPI to review and correct data related to Perkins reporting
3.1.2 Craft instruments to collect and analyze data for decision making
3.1.3 Support CTE Directors in understanding and preparing for audits and reviews
3.1.4 Actively participate in the development of the any CTE contributions to high school graduation
3.1.5 Promote industry-based certifications, and/or equivalent courses of students with a CTE concentration
3.1.6 Actively participate in the statewide CTE course-equivalency initiative and roll-out
3.1.7 Support CTE standards as defined by OSPI Policy and Procedures
3.1.8 Be responsive to economic and workforce trends and emerging industries that drive CTE
program development or improvement
3.1.9 Support efforts to market the value of CTE to an ever-broadening audience
3.1.10 Provide leadership at the district level as standards based instruction is implemented
